It's officially summer--how does your garden grow?
A
reminder to those who may have requested a garden mentor: Bonnie
C., a long-time Penn Yan gardener and Florida Master Gardener, will
be at the garden this Saturday from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. Bonnie has volunteered her Saturday
mornings to be a mentor for those who have gardening questions. Thank you Bonnie for your support!
Your
Board of Directors is planning an annual meeting of the membership.
This would be the voting meeting as required in our bylaws. Right now we
are considering holding it on Saturday, July 20 at Milly's Pantry.
Please let us know if this date would work for you, and which time you
would prefer: 12-2pm or 2-4pm. This meeting would be a casual potluck
(featuring fresh garden produce--what will you make from your garden?)
and social hour, followed by a vote on our Board of Directors.
You
may have seen some live traps around the community garden. A volunteer
has been live trapping and relocating some woodchucks. There have been
reports of rabbits in the garden, too. We are doing our best to prevent
those critters from getting in (a big thank you to Chris and Lisa
M. for finishing the fence by adding chicken wire, and to Chris
H. for installing the plastic owl on top of the shed) so if you
notice nibbling on your veggies, please let us know and we'll see what
we can do.
As
always, if you have any news you'd like to share with your fellow
members, send it to pygarden@yahoo.com and we will make sure it gets
into the next "What's Cropping Up" newsletter.
Happy Gardening!
