On
Saturday, April 12, the Penn Yan Community Garden will be holding two
member orientation sessions at Milly's Pantry on Main Street in Penn
Yan. The first session runs from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the second
from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Both sessions will cover the same topics
and are open to new and returning members along with the general
public. Anyone who is curious about the community garden is welcome to
attend.
On the agenda for
the orientation sessions are: a review of the Garden's membership
agreement and rules, an overview of garden maintenance teams, and a
short presentation on square foot gardening, which is an efficient way
to maximize growth in the Garden's 4 foot wide by 10 foot long plots.
The Penn Yan
Community Garden, located off of Pleasant Avenue, will officially open
for the 2014 growing season on April 26. If they have not already done so, returning members are
encouraged to submit their signed membership agreements (downloadable
from the Garden's website at http://pygarden.blogspot.com/p/become-member.html) in advance of April 26 to ensure their plot and maintenance team selections. Annual memberships are $25 per plot.
