Hello garden members! Can you believe August is here already?
Here's some news since our last update:
Thanks to many who responded to our alert, the septoria and early
blight infections are largely under control. The cooler weather has
helped. Much of the diseased foliage has been removed. But we are not
out of the woods ; there is still some infection out there. It can come
back because it is easily spread by spores in the wind. Members need to
keep their tomato plants trimmed, watered at ground level (keeping the
leaves dry) and clean up any disease they spot. And - do not compost the diseased foliage.
Kathleen worked on beds #15 - 16 - 30 - 31 and cleaned up their infected tomato plants. Also removed some dead squash plants.
If you are growing squash or broccoli, be sure to compost your plants when they are finished/dead.
With the open garden space you
can plant spinach, beets, carrots, turnips, chard, lettuce for a fall
crop. If you have any questions about fall crops, be sure to let us
know.
Thank you to those who attended the member potluck on July 20. The Board of Directors was re-elected for another year and we received some great suggestions for improvement. Thank you again!
Happy gardening!
