A sample of the garden soil was submitted to the Cornell Nutrient Analysis Laboratory to test for heavy metals that might pose a toxicity threat to humans or adversely affect plant health. The test results showed that the metals levels in the soil are below what is considered toxic to humans or crops.
Cornell's Recommended Maximum Safe Concentrations for Garden Soils:

Soil Test Results
A soil sample from the Pleasant Ave. site was recently tested by Agro-One, and the results are as follows:
TEST DATE: 1/31/2012
Phosphorous (P): 2 lbs/acre (Below optimum)
Potassium (K): 215 lbs/acre (Above optimum)
Calcium (Ca): 3,769 lbs/acre (Above optimum)
Magnesium (Mg): 595 lbs/acre (Above optimum)
Iron (Fe): 7 lbs/acre
Manganese (Mn): 15 lbs/acre
Zinc (Zn): 1 lbs/acre
Aluminum (Al): 38 lbs/acre
Organic Matter: 4.1%
Soil pH: 6.6
Buffer pH: 6.3
FERTILIZER RECOMMENDATIONS:
Year 1 - Mixed Vegetables
Lime: 0 lbs/100 sq. ft.
Nitrogen: 0.2 - 0.3 lbs/100 sq. ft.
Phosphorous: 0.2 lbs/100 sq. ft.
Potassium: 0.1 lbs/100 sq. ft.
Another soil sample will need to be submitted to Agro-One to check for heavy metals or other soil contaminants which could pose a hazard to food crops.
